Here are a few more aerial sunsets. This is the perfect time of year to fly in Iowa (mid-summer). It’s time for the state’s annual RAGBRAI bike ride, and the Indianola Hotair Balloon Festival; The Hotair Balloon Classic. I take advantage of the low winds to get out and capture some great images of our midwest views.
I need to spin off a blog just for my sunset photos. Here’s one from tonight.
On our drive home from the Mason City Airshow last night, I had to pull off the I-35 to capture this stunning sunset. I’m going to need to dedicate a page to sunsets soon!
Last night, I scrambled to find a new place to photograph another amazing Iowa sunset. I jumped in the car and headed west around 8:30pm (Sunset is 8:45pm). After about 10 minutes of driving, the sun was disappearing on the horizon and I thought I missed it; oh well, I thought, I’ll get some cool sky colors about 10-15 minutes after sunset and call it a night. After cresting the final hill, I caught a glimpse, pulled the car over and ran across the street. This is in Booneville, Iowa – And I’m glad I caught it!
I’ve been photographing sunsets lately, mostly HDR with a lot of time in Photoshop. This shot is from last Friday in Adel, Iowa at Penoach Winery; one of our favorite hangouts in the area. We’ve been here for one year now and we love it here. The weather tests us at times, but scenes like this are priceless. The “Only In Iowa” facebook page shared it and the viewers loved it, so I thought I’d post it here.
Our favorite local wine stop, Penoach Vineyard & Wineary, hosts a summer concert series on Friday nights. This was our first, and the headliner happened to be The Back Stage Boogie Band! They were great, and the BBQ food truck was the best we’ve had in a while – Adventure Barbecue – Wow! Here are a few pictures from the night, we’ll definitely be back!
For those of you who haven’t seen fireflies, like us a year ago, here’s a little clip!
